The High Court directs Singapore’s internet service provider to block access of popular illegal apps that are often sold with Android TV boxes.
In a court decision made on November 2, the Android TV box is also classified as an illegal streaming device (ISD).
The app, which violates copyright by acting as the gateway to pirated content streaming content, is loaded with the TV box.
According to the Asian Video Industry Organization (AVIA), illegal device contamination affects parties involved in the production and distribution of legitimate content.
“The act of configuring TV boxes with apps to stream audio-visual content from illegal streaming senders allows users to access premium TV channels, live sports channels, and movies, without permission, simply by making a single payment for a TV box and (usually) a subscription annual.
