UniFi Malaysia is a service by Telekom Malaysia, offering Internet access, Voice over Internet Protocol or know as (VoIP) and Internet Protocol television (IPTV) to residential and business clients through an optical fiber network via Fiber to the home for single housing unit and VDSL2 for multi-story buildings in Malaysia.
Formerly called the VIP (Voice, Internet, Phone) plan, the residential package was renamed as Lite plan, Advance plan and Pro plan, which provides video or IP Television, Internet Access, and phone service.
Background about Unifi Malaysia
Initiated and signed in September 2008, the 11.3 billion ringgit Malaysia national HSBB known as High-Speed Broadband project is a PPP agreement between TM and the government to develop next generation HSBB infrastructure and services. TM invested 8.9 billion ringgit Malaysia and the government invested 2.4 billion ringgit Malaysia on an incurred claims basis based on project milestones reached by TM.
Unifi was officially launched on 24 March 2010. Other wireless broadband providers include P1 and YTL, which launched its WiMax wireless broadband in November 2010.
The High-Speed Broadband project, which is the flagship of the National Broadband Initiative, is hoped help Malaysia to catch up with countries in Asia like Japan, Korea and Singapore, which have high speed broadband at relatively low prices.
